Hello Kidney

I'm Amanda, I'm 32 years old & I have End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF). I am currently undergoing hemodialysis 3 times weekly, for 4 hours a day. My ESRF is a result my Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) which is very brittle & nearly impossible to keep under control. Aside from dialysis, I'm a pretty cool girl. Very laid back. Quite eclectic. Terribly flippant about many subjects. I'm a crazy cat lady, but I only like solid white cats. I am homeless & I have been since March of 2012. My younger sister Leslie was killed on October 1, 2012 on her way to work. It was a head on collision & she was killed by a drunk driver. She was also 6 months pregnant with a little boy named Shelby. The man who killed her is in jail & we hope the legal system gives us the justice that we deserve after this tragedy. He had 3 previous DUIs, a suspended license, his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit & he had an open container in his car. All he left the accident with was a broken ankle. So basically, my life is a huge mess, full of devastating occurrences. I need an outlet for some of them. That's why I created this blog so I can talk about daily happenings involving my ESRF & dialysis. There honestly aren't that many blogs & sites that involve both ESRF & younger people. I hope I can change that & promote awareness for this awful illness. There is no cure for it. There is only buying time. Whether it be with dialysis or with a kidney transplant, none of these solutions are permanent. I hope that someone can get something out of this blog. <3
